Now broadcastingGN's free Auracast+ app turns a $250 TV streamer into a venue transmitter

For venues

You run a theatre, a church, a lecture hall or a council chamber and someone has asked about Auracast. Here is what to install, what it costs, and the one thing the Australian standard does not say yet.

What a broadcast needs

One transmitter per room, fed from the same mix you send to the PA or the loop. A professional unit carries two streams, so a theatre can broadcast the programme and an audio description at the same time, and a cinema can run two languages. Range is 100 metres or more; units can repeat each other to cover a stadium.

Visitors join with their own hearing aids, earbuds or phones. For everyone else you keep a fleet of loan receivers with headphones and neckloops, exactly as you do today for infrared or FM.

Compliance in Australia

The National Construction Code (D4D8) requires hearing augmentation wherever there is a permanent PA. AS 1428.5:2021 describes loops and infrared and does not name Auracast, so industry practice is to treat Auracast as a receiver-based system: it satisfies the requirement only with a receiver fleet on hand, and most venues keep the loop. The Hearing Services Program still requires a telecoil model to be offered, which is one more reason to run both. An international standard for Auracast assistive listening, IEC 60118-17, is expected in late 2027.

Sydney Opera House, City Recital Hall, ICC Sydney, QPAC and the University of Queensland have all gone this route. City Recital Hall's install was funded by a Sound NSW venue upgrade grant.

Getting listed

Our venue directory is free. Send us the rooms covered, the equipment, how visitors join, and a contact for verification, and we will add you as a verified venue. Register the venue with the Bluetooth SIG as well so it appears in their location profiles; Australia currently has none listed there.
