Sydney Opera House confirmed on 31 August that Auracast now covers all seven of its indoor venues. The Concert Hall, Joan Sutherland Theatre, Centre for Creativity and Utzon Room join the Drama Theatre, Playhouse and Studio, which went live on 18 March 2025 and made the Opera House the first major cultural institution in the world to broadcast.

The system is Auri, the transmitter family from Ampetronic and Listen Technologies, supplied through Jands. The 2025 launch was a partnership with GN, Hearing Australia and the National Acoustic Laboratories.

How to use it

Bring your own Auracast hearing aids or earbuds and join from your phone, or borrow a receiver with headphones or a neckloop from the cloakroom. Induction loops remain at the counters. Our venue page has the detail.

Why it matters

Scale, and precedent. Seven rooms, including a 2,600-seat concert hall, on one platform is the biggest Auracast install in a cultural building anywhere; the UK's National Theatre is still in pilot in one room. And the Opera House's decision has pulled other Sydney venues along: City Recital Hall followed in September 2025 with a Sound NSW grant, and ICC Sydney runs Auri in its ballroom and theatres.

What has not followed is listing. The Bluetooth SIG's venue directory has six New Zealand entries and none from Australia, the Opera House included. Until that changes, our directory is where Australian Auracast venues live.
